The Village of Kalkaska extends a moratorium on housing density requirements to support more housing development. The NAR President participates in a panel discussion focused on housing supply challenges.

Tomorrow is Election Day! If you have not already voted absentee, or by early in-person voting, tomorrow is your day to vote! When you go to the ballot box today we encourage you to support Michigan REALTORS and Aspire North REALTORS endorsed candidates and issues. All endorsements were made through a transparent process by members like you. All endorsed candidates and issues are listed below and can also be viewed on the 2024 Endorsed Candidates and Issues webpage along with Candidate Questionnaire responses completed by Grand Traverse County Commission candidates and TCAPS Board of Director candidates. The Grand Traverse County Commission candidates and TCAPS Board of Directors were determined by the Aspire North REALTORS Public Policy Committee to be targeted races, so additional information was sought via Candidate Questionnaires to assist you in your voting decision on or before November 5th.

2. Village of Kalkaska Extends Moratorium on Housing Density Requirements to Allow Increased Housing Development
The Village of Kalkaska at their October 14th Village Council Meeting adopted Ordinance 2024-011 (on pages 163-164) recognizing the “immediate and critical need for housing within the Village limits.” This ordinance is a 2 year extension of an ordinance originally passed on October 10th, 2022 which suspends the dwelling unit density requirement for Multiple Family Residential (Section 3.6 of the Village of Kalkaska Zoning Ordinance, page 17), Downtown Commercial (Section 3.9, page 34), and Regional Commercial (Section 3.10, page 35). This moratorium will be effective until October 14th, 2026.
3. NAR President Joins Panel Discussion Focused on Housing Supply Challenges
National Association of Realtors® President Kevin Sears joined national housing leaders Wednesday for a panel reception hosted by the National League of Cities and American Planning Association focused on the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook, a guide that contains more than 40 strategies for state and local governments to deploy in the fight for housing affordability.
NAR partnered with key national stakeholders to create the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook as a tool to increase local capacity, determine solutions, and speed up reforms that enable a wide range of housing options to be built and preserved to meet housing needs at the local level.
