The Aspire North REALTORS® Government Affairs Department works to aggressively ensure that the REALTORS® voice is heard, interests are protected, and members are informed on policy that affects their business. Our primary function is to monitor legislation throughout a 6 county region which includes: Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, and Wexford Counties.

As a department, we work in close partnership with Michigan REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® to help ensure that Aspire North REALTORS® has access to special programs, toolkits and grants that allow members to be a strong and positive image in the communities they serve.

The Government Affairs Department staff serves as liaisons to the Aspire North REALTOR® Public Policy Committee and REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Committee. Aspire North REALTORS® endorses and supports candidates at the local levels during important election cycles as determined by the Aspire North RPAC Committee. Check below for the latest endorsements of candidates and ballot issues.

Our Selection Process

During election cycles, the Aspire North RPAC Committee takes the time to carefully consider races across our region and interview candidates running for office in districts determined to potentially have a direct impact on housing and private property rights, as well as review local ballot measures. Aspire North endorses candidates who they feel are REALTOR® Party Champions. These candidates either have proven themselves as champions of REALTOR® issues as incumbents or are new candidates who show potential to become our champions through their willingness to work with Aspire North on issues affecting housing and private property rights. Aspire North will also often recommend that its REALTOR® members either support or oppose local ballot measures that have a direct impact on housing and private property rights.

Candidate Interview Task Force

The Aspire North Candidate Interview Task Force is composed of Aspire North members who are RPAC contributors and have attended a Choosing REALTOR® Party Champions Training held annually by Aspire North. They meet during each election cycle to interview candidates for local elected offices and recommend REALTOR® Party Champions to the Aspire North RPAC Committee for support in upcoming elections.

REALTORS® are the ambassadors of their cities, townships, villages, and the faces of their neighborhoods. This is why it is important for us to be engaged in political advocacy and to always know what is going on with public policy at the local, state, and federal levels.

Calls For Action; Make your voice heard!

When elected officials at the local, state, or federal level are working on legislation that will affect the real estate industry, it becomes imperative to make sure they know where REALTORS® stand on the issue. The easiest way to do that is through Calls for Action.

Aspire North, Michigan REALTORS®, and National Association of REALTORS® may periodically send out a text alert asking you to take the call. Responding is as simple as two clicks – one to open the alert and a second click to send the message. A pre-written message is automatically sent to the local, state, or federal elected official who represents you at your home address. It’s that simple!

Whether we are fighting harmful legislation or advocating for helpful legislation, Aspire North, Michigan REALTORS®, and NAR members join together and speak with one loud, powerful voice.

Invest in the REALTOR® Party

As a member of the REALTOR® Party, you invest in your business by giving to the Michigan REALTORS® Political Action Committee (Michigan RPAC) and help Michigan RPAC build the bipartisan relationships necessary at all levels of government to ensure a sound and dynamic real estate market. Michigan RPAC gives REALTORS® a seat at the table and demonstrates that REALTORS® mean business when it comes to politics. RPAC contributions are used to support REALTOR® Party Champions and to communicate the Association’s official position on public policy issues affecting real estate.
