East Bay Township STR Ordinance Update, TC Planning Commission Discusses Goal to Expand Housing Opportunities, and Registration Opens for 2023 REALTOR Legislative Meetings

Welcome back to another edition of The GAD Top Three, a weekly highlight of the local, state, or national real estate public policy happenings curated by your Government Affairs Director (GAD), Connor Miller. This week features an update on East Bay Township’s Short-Term Rental Ordinance Amendments, Traverse City Planning Commission's meeting later this week to discuss their goal to expand housing opportunities and their means for doing it, and registration opens for the 2023 REALTOR Legislative Meetings!

1. East Bay Township STR Ordinance Update

The East Bay Township Short-Term Rental Ordinance Amendment discussion continues. After a lengthy discussion at the East Bay Township Board Meeting on Monday, February 13th (watch here, Starts at 59:31 and ends at 3:16:19) going over the possible amendments to Ordinance No. 5 of 2019 of the Short-Term Rental Licensing Ordinance (View proposed amendments on pages 133 to 136 of the East Bay Township Board Meeting Packet and view the entire amended East Township Short-Term Rental Licensing Ordinance on pages 137 to 153) that were originally proposed for East Bay Township staff to make at the November 14, 2022 East Bay Township Board Meeting. They will be bringing back the Short-Term Rental Licensing Ordinance for their March 13th East Bay Township Board Meeting to review and discuss the additional changes made during this February Meeting. East Bay Township currently has a Short-Term Rental Moratorium through June 2023 on the establishment of any new short-term rentals. The East Bay Township Board is hopeful of passing an amended Short-Term Rental Ordinance to go into effect prior to the expiration of the current Moratorium. More detailed information on the proposed changes to East Bay’s current Short-Term Rental Ordinance will be addressed in a future GAD Top Three. 

2. TC Planning Commission Discusses Goal to Expand Housing Opportunities this Wednesday, Feb 22nd

At this Wednesday’s Traverse City Planning Commission Study Session on Wednesday, February 22nd, commissioners and staff will dive into a discussion of their annual goals for how to expand housing opportunities. 3. Registration Opens for 2023 REALTOR Legislative Meetings

Registration opened Wednesday, February 15th for the 2023 REALTOR Legislative Meetings. Held each May in Washington, D.C., this event gives NAR members the opportunity to take an active role in advancing the real estate industry, public policy, and the association. This year’s event will be held from Sunday, May 6th to Thursday, May 11th, and features special issues forums, NAR Committee meetings, legislative activities (including Capital Hill visits with our U.S. House of Representative members and U.S. Senators), the industry trade show, and this year a REALTOR National Block Party at Nationals Park with thousands of REALTORS, members of Congress and their staff.
