1. Grand Traverse County Commission Approves Funding to Support Safe Harbor Year-round Operation
The Grand Traverse County Commission at their Wednesday, February 5th Regular Meeting after much discussion approved a $200,000 commitment for each of the next two years to close Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse’s funding gap needed to operate their emergency shelter year-round for the next two years. This commitment was made by the Grand Traverse County Commissioners with the expectation and understanding that a task force will be formed to develop a long-term, comprehensive community response plan to best serve our unhoused community members going forward behind this 2 year commitment. It was previously shared at the Grand Traverse County Study Session on January 22nd that this task force is intended to begin meeting in April with the intention to have a plan by fall of 2025 (covered in the Jan. 27th GAD Top 3). You can view the full Grand Traverse County discussion and approval of the funding for Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse here (minute 39 to minute 1:37:30).
2. Long Lake Township Ad Hoc Committee Considering Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance
At the December 17th Charter Township of Long Lake Planning Commission Meeting (page 4) the Planning Commission agreed to create an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Ad Hoc Committee to discuss ADUs and create a draft Zoning Ordinance. Since then the Long Lake Planning Commission ADU Ad Hoc Committee met on January 8th (pages 6 and 7) and this past Wednesday, February 5th where they discussed draft ADU Ordinance language (pages 2 to 4).
