This week we cover what will likely be the last of our November election 2024 recaps with a summary report on Traverse City Proposals 1 & 2 as well as the post-election advocacy scoop podcast unpacking the election results at a federal level. In local news, Milton Township receives approval from the Antrim County Planning Commission for their zoning amendment to allow duplexes by right in most zoning districts.
1. Summary Report on Traverse City Proposals 1 & 2
As you may have noticed over the past couple of months, Aspire North REALTORS took an active role in the attempt to defeat Traverse City Proposals 1 & 2 which unfortunately passed this November 5th. I have produced a summary report of the campaign efforts undertaken by Traverse Together and Aspire North REALTORS specifically to defeat these proposals. Although these campaign efforts were unsuccessful in this election, our association’s efforts have broadened our local coalition of support and partners putting Aspire North REALTORS in a strong position to support and nurture pro-REALTOR issues and candidates in Traverse City going forward.
2. Post-Election Episode of the Advocacy Scoop Podcast
The latest Advocacy Scoop podcast was recorded live at the NAR NXT conference two days after the election. With votes still being tallied, Shannon and Patrick unpack the election results and initial reactions. They zoom in on races from around the country and discuss what each outcome means for NAR and REALTORS® in 2025 and beyond. Listen to the podcast here.
3. Antrim County Planning Commission Approved Milton Township Planning Commission Zoning Amendment to Support Workforce Housing
At the Antrim County Planning Commission Meeting on Tuesday, November 5th support was given for Milton Township’s zoning amendment to allow duplexes to be permitted by right in Agricultural (A), Agricultural-Residential (A-R), Manufactured Housing (R-3), Environmental (E) Zoning Districts. This change permits duplexes, or two-family dwellings, in all Milton Township Zoning Districts except the Residential One-family and the Light Manufacturing and Processing Zoning Districts. Milton Township Planning Commission is adding duplexes to various zoning districts as well as providing for planned development in the Agricultural Zoning District. This is an attempt by Milton Township to provide small homes on smaller lots to increase workforce housing in their community. You can view the Milton Township Planning Commission Zoning Amendment on pages 42 to 50 of the November 5th Antrim County Planning Commission meeting packet.
