Fair Housing Month Takeover! Michigan REALTORS® Fair Housing Summit on Wednesday, April 9th; 37th Annual Fair Housing Workshop Series Virtual Event on Thursday, April 24th; Utilize The CE Shop and Fairhaven 2.0 to Complete On-Demand Fair Housing Training and Receive Fair Housing CE Credit.

With tomorrow marking the beginning of Fair Housing Month, we have a Fair Housing Takeover of this week’s GAD Top 3. As of February 13th, 2024 in Michigan all real estate professionals must complete one hour of continuing education concerning compliance with local, state, or federal fair housing law in each year of their licensing cycle. Below are three opportunities - in-person, virtual, and on-demand - that you can take advantage of this month to comply with this standard as well as raise your awareness, deepen your understanding, and hold ourselves accountable to supporting the American dream of homeownership for all qualified buyers. 

1. Michigan REALTORS® Fair Housing Summit on Wednesday, April 9th

Join Michigan REALTORS® for the Fair Housing Summit on April 9th at the Lansing Center (333 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48933) from 8 am to 2:30 pm. Topics covered at the Michigan REALTORS Fair Housing Summit include AI in Real Estate: Power, Profit, and Pitfalls, A panel discussion on Unlocking Equal Access; an education session from the Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit; and a Keynote on Appraisal Bias from Alexia Smolker NAR’s Director of Fair Housing Policy and Programs. 2. 37th Annual Fair Housing Workshop Series Virtual Event on Thursday, April 24th

On Thursday, April 24th the Fair Housing Center of West Michigan (FHCWM) will be hosting their 37th Annual Fair Housing Workshop Series virtually via Zoom from 1 pm to 4:30 pm. The event will feature three workshops focused on fair housing featuring Jim Schaafsma (Housing Attorney, Michigan Poverty Law Program), Becky Nespital (Enforcement Coordinator, FHCWM), Shanti Abedin (Vice President of Housing and Community Development, National Fair Housing Alliance) and others! The schedule for the event is listed below and includes a presentation certified for a one-hour Fair Housing Continuing Education credit.

1:00 pm - Welcome and Fighting for Fair Housing: Recent Key Cases Workshop (CE Marketplace certified 1 Fair Housing CE credit)

3:00 pm - Fostering Communities of Opportunity: Neighborhood Initiative Workshop and Event Program

3. Utilize The CE Shop and Fairhaven 2.0 to Complete On-Demand Fair Housing Training and Receive Fair Housing CE Credit

Aren’t available to attend the Michigan REALTORS® Fair Housing Summit on April 9th or the 37th Annual Fair Housing Workshop Series on April 24th? You can participate in on-demand Fair Housing courses through The CE Shop all Continuing Education (CE) credits available, including courses with Fair Housing CE credits are listed in the title of each course. Aspire North REALTORS® has established an agreement with The CE Shop to promote online course information to consumers and real estate licensees. Aspire North REALTORS® is not the developer of these courses and is simply providing a referral. Any questions regarding course content or technology should be directed to The CE Shop.

Also, new this year is NAR’s dynamic online simulation of fair housing challenges, Fairhaven 2.0. Fairhaven 2.0 is free for all NAR members and thanks to Michigan REALTORS®, you will receive 2 hours of Fair Housing CE credits for completing the Fairhaven 2.0 course. All members are eligible to complete Fairhaven 2.0 for 2 hours of Fair Housing credits, even if you previously completed the original Fairhaven 1.0. However, you can only receive Fair Housing CE credits for completing Fairhaven 2.0, once in the current NAR Cycle (2025-2027). For each subsequent year you will need to complete your annual requirement of one hour of Fair Housing CE credit through other programming.
