2. Grand Traverse County Septic Inspection Ordinance Ad Hoc Committee Drafts Septic Regulations for County Board’s Consideration
As covered in previous GAD Top 3s (Oct. 21st and Nov. 18th) Grand Traverse (GT) County has been holding Septic Inspection Program Ad Hoc Committee Meetings on October 11th, November 13th, and this past Monday, December 2nd. At the December 2nd Ad Hoc Committee Meeting, Grand Traverse County Commissioners approved moving forward with the introduction of Draft Point-of-Transfer Septic Regulations with the edits that are included in this attachment and after it has been cleaned up by GT County Health Department staff and GT County legal staff.
Members of this ad hoc committee included GT County Health Department Staff; Grand Traverse County Commissioners TJ Andrews, Rob Hentschel, and Brad Jewett; Christine Crissman with the Watershed Center; as well as participants from local townships including East Bay Township, Long Lake Township, and Paradise Township; septic inspector Butch Strait; in addition to myself (Connor Miller). The Aspire North REALTORS® Public Policy Committee has been kept informed of these discussions to the point that the Public Policy Committee passed a recommendation that was approved by the Aspire North Board of Directors at their October Board Meeting which reads, “Recommendation to support Grand Traverse County putting in place a Point-of-Sale or Point-of-Transfer ordinance for properties within 300 feet of a body of water.” A recommendation that ultimately guided policy for GT County’s Draft Point-of-Transfer Septic Regulation.
Once the GT County Health Department has cleaned up this document and run it by the GT County legal department this Draft Point-of-Transfer Septic Regulation will be introduced to the GT County Commission as early as December 18th with the intention to pass the policy as soon as January. The enactment date would be October 1st, 2025. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me at connor@aspirenorthrealtors.com.
