Meet Jessica Brutzman: Government Affairs Chair for Aspire North Realtors
Jessica Brutzman has built her career on leadership, advocacy, and service, not only within the real estate industry, but throughout the Northern Michigan community. As Government Affairs Chair for Aspire North REALTORS® and a REALTOR® with Key Realty, she brings a thoughtful perspective to housing policy, industry education, and the importance of staying informed in a constantly evolving market.
Her journey into real estate started long before she earned her license. Jessica is a second-generation REALTOR®, growing up with firsthand exposure to the profession and the dedication it requires. In 2006, she began her career as a receptionist for Coldwell Banker in Cadillac, learning the business from the ground up. That early experience gave her a deep understanding of the industry and eventually led her into the leadership roles she holds today.
Jessica joined Aspire North REALTORS® in 2016 and quickly became more involved in the association. In 2018, she was appointed as a Reverse Mentor by Carolyn Collins, an opportunity that further deepened her connection to leadership within the organization. What initially began as curiosity about board service soon became a passion for representing and advocating for her fellow industry professionals.
Today, as Government Affairs Chair, Jessica is especially passionate about helping REALTORS® understand why public policy matters. She believes strongly that housing and lending policies directly impact not only REALTORS®, but also the clients and communities they serve every day.
“People often don’t realize how many times our industry comes under fire,” Jessica explains. “Our careers and our clients rely on us staying informed at every level of government. As a Government Affairs Committee, we examine issues carefully and take a stand when needed.”
She also emphasizes the important role RPAC investments play in supporting advocacy efforts and protecting the future of homeownership.
Jessica’s leadership experience extends far beyond committee work. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management and Leadership, she brought valuable expertise to her role as Aspire North President in 2024, a year marked by significant industry changes, including major shifts within the National Association of REALTORS® and the retirement of Aspire North’s previous CEO.
“It was a lot of work and a lot of high-stress situations that needed to be handled carefully,” she recalls. “I’m incredibly grateful for the fellow board members who stepped up and supported everyone during that transition.”
Even during periods of uncertainty, Jessica remained focused on collaboration, communication, and ensuring the association continued moving forward in a positive direction.
As she looks at today’s housing market, Jessica sees encouraging shifts in buyer behavior. Rather than rushing into decisions, many clients are taking more time to find homes that truly fit their long-term needs.
“I’m happy to see people finding homes they can call their forever home,” she says. “As the saying goes, ‘marry the home, not the rate.’”
Outside of real estate, Jessica’s passion for service continues throughout the community. She volunteers extensively across Northern Michigan, serving on the Traverse City Coast Guard City Committee while also dedicating significant time to Scouting programs. As a Scout mom, Scenic Trails Scouting District Roundtable Commissioner, and Fundraising Events Chair, she plays a key role in training, mentorship, and community engagement initiatives.
And while many know her as a leader and advocate, there’s one fun fact that surprises people: Jessica absolutely loves baseball.
When she’s looking for a favorite local gathering spot, she doesn’t hesitate to recommend The Parlor, calling it the perfect place to connect with friends and colleagues.
A few quick facts about Jessica:
- Coffee over tea — always.
- Proud night owl.
- Loves both the beach and the mountains.
- Favorite reads include Extreme Ownership and Present Over Perfect.
Jessica believes Aspire North REALTORS® serves an essential role in the region by providing trusted housing information, education, and market insights to both professionals and the public.
“Aspire North is the leader when it comes to housing information, trends, and education,” she says.
Looking ahead, her goal is to continue increasing awareness around housing and lending policy and helping people understand how even small legislative changes can impact homeownership opportunities and the way business is conducted throughout the industry.
For those entering the real estate profession, Jessica offers practical advice grounded in experience:
“Success does not happen overnight. You have to put the time in. Set boundaries because time is precious. Own every success and every mistake and learn from both.”
She also credits much of her own professional inspiration to the people who have supported her along the way.
“The people who celebrate your wins and help keep your chin up when times get tough are the ones who matter most,” she shares. “I have a few of those people in my circle, and I don’t think I would be who I am without their kindness and support. They’re always there for a cup of coffee or a margarita. We’re each other’s biggest fans and strongest shoulders.”
At the heart of everything Jessica does is a simple philosophy that reflects both her leadership style and her approach to life:
“Be kind. Stay humble. Celebrate each other. Be true to who you are. Life’s short, make the memories because we can’t get the time back.”
