Meet Chad Brown: MLS Committee Chair for Aspire North REALTORS®

For nearly three decades, Chad Brown has combined a passion for Northern Michigan’s waterways with a deep commitment to the real estate industry. Today, as MLS Committee Chair for Aspire North Realtors, Chad brings experience, perspective, and a strong belief in professional standards to one of the industry’s most important conversations: protecting and advancing REALTOR® data, ethics, and collaboration.

From Fly Fishing Guide to REALTOR®

Chad’s path into real estate wasn’t conventional, and that’s part of what makes his perspective unique.

Originally pursuing his dream of becoming a fly fishing guide, Chad spent countless hours on Northern Michigan rivers building relationships with clients who shared his appreciation for the outdoors. Over time, many of those clients began asking about purchasing riverfront property and homes in the region.

That natural connection between lifestyle and real estate inspired Chad to earn his REALTOR® license 27 years ago. Since then, he has built a successful business around the same passions that first brought him to Northern Michigan: fly fishing, boating, family life, and helping others find their place in the community.

A Longstanding Commitment to MLS Advancement

Chad has been actively involved with REALTOR® associations and MLS systems since 2002. Throughout Northern and Central Michigan, he has worked alongside multiple organizations to improve listing data quality, accessibility, and member resources.

Currently a member of six different MLS systems, Chad has played a major role in advancing available data and improving the tools REALTORS® rely on to serve consumers effectively.

His work centers around a belief that accurate, high-quality listing data is essential, not only for REALTORS®, but for consumers navigating one of the most important financial decisions of their lives.

Why Board Service Matters

Chad’s decision to serve in leadership stems from a practical philosophy:

“If you’re going to complain about something, you first need to get involved to see if there are real issues and try to positively impact the situation first.”

That mindset continues to shape his work on the MLS Committee and within the broader REALTOR® community.

He believes the industry is currently at a critical turning point regarding control over listing data and the future role of REALTOR® associations at the national, state, and local levels.

As a passionate supporter of NAR, MAR, local associations, and especially the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, Chad is committed to preserving the foundation the industry has built over more than 100 years of serving clients and communities.

Bringing Experience & Perspective to the Table

In addition to his association leadership, Chad brings extensive operational experience through his brokerage work, where he supervises more than 250 transactions each year.

That day-to-day involvement gives him a grounded understanding of the challenges REALTORS® face in an evolving market.

One of the biggest trends Chad sees today is the growing number of professionals operating outside the expectations of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics.

He believes membership in REALTOR® organizations carries both benefits and responsibilities, and that ethical standards remain essential to maintaining trust within the profession and the public.

Life Outside the Office

When Chad isn’t working, you’ll most likely find him on the water.

Whether sailing, fly fishing, or power boating, Northern Michigan’s lakes and rivers remain central to his lifestyle. He also enjoys spending time with his family and caring for their small hobby farm, complete with goats, chickens, gardens, and land projects.

One fun fact many people may not know: Chad originally moved to Traverse City in his mid-20s to manage the iconic Boathouse Restaurant on Old Mission Peninsula.

And when it comes to favorite local dining spots, he says it’s hard to beat PepeNero.

Why Aspire North Realtors Matters

For Chad, the role of REALTORS® and REALTOR® associations goes far beyond transactions.

He believes homeownership remains one of the core foundations of society, and REALTORS® play a vital role in helping clients navigate the complex buying and selling process with confidence and less stress.

Through his work with Aspire North Realtors, Chad hopes to help fellow board members navigate the rapidly changing real estate landscape while continuing to advocate for members, ethical standards, and local industry leadership.

Advice for New REALTORS®

Chad offers practical advice to anyone considering a career in real estate:

“Don’t start a career in real estate until you either have a small nest egg, or a regular paying job that you’ll be able to live on while you ramp up to being a full-time REALTOR®.”

He also emphasizes the importance of surrounding yourself with successful, motivated people:

“Surround yourself with more successful people than yourself and you’ll be just fine.”

A Final Thank You

Chad also wanted to recognize the many volunteers who give their time to support the real estate industry.

From board service to committee involvement, he understands the commitment required and deeply appreciates those willing to serve on behalf of fellow members and the public.

Their collective work continues to strengthen the profession and support communities across Northern Michigan.
