NAR Political Advocacy Wins in 2024; Advocacy Scoop Podcast Outlines NAR’s 2025 Tax Reform Priorities; Long Lake Township Reviews Local ADU Policies to Determine Their Future ADU Policies
This week on the GAD Top Three, we start by looking back at NAR’s Political Advocacy Wins in 2024. Next, we quickly summarize to the Advocacy Scoop Podcast to learn about NAR’s 2025 Tax Reform Priorities to fight for housing affordability, availability, and accessibility. Last, Long Lake Township takes a look at Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) policies in our region before they determine their own.
1. NAR Political Advocacy Wins in 2024
The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) compiled a list of Federal Political Advocacy wins in 2024 on the NAR Advocacy Wins webpage. You can view the full list on this PDF. Some highlights include:
- Of the 469 federal races in this year’s general election. RPAC supported 452 candidates and won 438 of those races (a success rate of just under 97%!)
- RPAC raised a total of $45,845,025 in 2024.
- Participation in RPAC is at 34% nationally.
- Issues Mobilization Grants set a new record of 85 grants approved (one of which was awarded to Aspire North REALTORS to defeat Traverse City Proposals 1 & 2).
- The NAR State and Local Independent Expenditures (IE) Program which supports REALTOR Party champion candidates approved 418 applications and had 254 election-day wins, including electing Kyra Harris Bolden to the Michigan Supreme Court.
- NAR supported 109 Calls for Action (CFAs) through the Advocacy Everywhere program to mobilize REALTORS and consumers on public policy issues.
2. Advocacy Scoop Podcast Outlines NAR’s 2025 Tax Reform Priorities
In the latest episode of the Advocacy Scoop podcast—A Taxing Conversation: New Year, New Season, and New Policy Priorities for NAR’s advocacy team—Shannon and Patrick delve into the complicated world of tax reform and how Congress and the administration plan to tackle the expiring Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). From Opportunity Zone incentives to the SALT deduction to protecting 1031 like-kind exchanges, they discuss what’s on the table this year and what’s most important for REALTORS® and the fight for affordability, availability, and accessibility.
3. Long Lake Township Reviews Local ADU Policies to Determine Their ADU Policies in the Future
On January 8th, 2025, an Ad Hoc Committee of the Charter Township of Long Lake Planning Commission met to review their Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Regional Analysis from four Grand Traverse County Townships that permit accessory dwelling units, (East Bay, Blair, Green Lake, and Paradise) as well as one Benzie County Township, Almira. As of this printing, we only have the Charter Township of Long Lake Planning Commission ADU Ad Hoc Committee Jan. 8th meeting packet listing of these regional ADU policies they reviewed.
