2021 Ed Petty Lifetime Achievement Award | Doug Meteyer

2021 Ed Petty Lifetime Achievement Award | Doug Meteyer slideshow item

In 2018, Aspire North REALTORS® established the Ed Petty Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize, each year, an individual who personifies a lifetime of outstanding vision, dedication, and commitment to our real estate industry. This year we had the honor to present this award to Doug Meteyer with Keller Williams Northern Michigan. Doug's accomplishments throughout his career are numerous (so many we had to list them separately below) and are rightfully recognized by this award, and his close relationship with Ed made it all the more special for him to receive it. "I humbly accept this award, whose namesake was a cherished friend and mentor of mine," said Doug at our recent Awards & Installation of Officers Ceremony. "My only regret is that, in Ed's passing, we wouldn't be here together to celebrate."

Ed Petty sadly passed away this December. Ed was a legend in our local real estate industry, and we know he would be honored to pass the mantle of this award onto Doug. Congratulations again Doug! We are lucky to have someone of your character as a member of this association!

Some of Doug's many accomplishments include the following:
  • 1992 Aspire North Board President and REALTOR® of the Year
  • 1998 Michigan REALTORS® President
  • National Association of REALTORS® Director from 1994 to 2001
  • As President of Michigan REALTORS®, Doug led efforts to update practices that we now take for granted, including Agency Disclosure, Seller’s Disclosure, and the Land Division Act. His influence in shaping legislation and policy is still in effect to the benefit of real estate professionals and property owners across the state.
  • He has taught and mentored hundreds of REALTORS® throughout his 30 years, sharing his depth of knowledge and experience not only as a Licensed Broker but as a developer, licensed builder, and home designer as well.
  • His community involvement includes serving on the Traverse City Opera House Board during its renovation, as Director of both the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce and Home Builders Association of Northwestern Michigan, in addition to the Rotary Club of Traverse City where he has advocated for the preservation of sensitive lands, acquisition of the “Coal Dock” for use as a public space, and numerous other impact initiatives.
  • With all his accomplishments and involvement, Doug still chooses to share his knowledge, experience, and talents with Aspire North REALTORS® as the Chair of the Professional Standards Committee, which he has led since 1999.
